What makes Christian Homeschooling’s approach different?
At Christian Homeschooling we advocate teaching methods compatible with the way God made kids to learn. Your teaching approach shapes how each child will learn, think, and reason.
We start from a neurodevelopmental basis of learning. In other words, we try to teach children so they learn the way God designed them to learn.
God created children to learn. They are curious by nature; they ask questions, try new things. They want to learn. Too often, parents think teaching only involves what to learn. We need to shift our focus to teaching children how to learn.
It takes more than Christian-ized content to make an effective Christian education.
What is neurodevelopment?
Your child’s brain changes structurally as they mature. Current research indicates full maturity occurs in the early 20’s. Taking those changes into account will allow your child to learn more readily and with greater retention; they will be ready for the knowledge or reasoning at that particular time. Just as important, your expectations of their performance and abilities will be consistent with their current stage of development.
Is there an optimal pre-packaged educational program out there? We don’t think so. Every child is unique, and every family is unique. But there are some very concrete principles that apply universally. We focus on those principles.
What to expect from Christian Homeschooling…
We give you the background to develop a Christian homeschooling program for your family with our homeschool blog and articles. We spend a lot of effort discussing how kids learn and the practical implications this has on teaching. We also provide a Homeschooling Program Checklist (coming soon) to help you evaluate homeschooling programs.
Curriculum is important because content is important. We suggest our homeschool curriculum to give you a great place to start. It is academically excellent and solidly grounded in a Christian worldview. We know that it works as-is; it is the same curriculum that we used. But we expect that you will adapt it for your family– or even for each one of your kids.
What does the program cost?
Costs are very reasonable. You can homeschool for under $100 per year for most grade levels if you get at least some of the books from the local library, used bookstores, and low-cost digital downloads.
We tell you how and where to get the texts. We also recommend an e-book reader; most of the classics are available as free or nearly-free downloads. Some e-book readers allow downloads from the public library.
There are no consumables in the curriculum—you can use them year after year as your younger children get older. When you are done, you can either sell your materials or save them to pass on to the next generation.
We offer books for parents on how to homeschool (coming soon). The books are based on our research and homeschooling experience. We offer them as digital downloads to keep costs low.
